Rainbows.

Rainbow baby shower was not only a sensory overload, but a success (at least in my eyes). I was really pleased with how the cake worked out. I was worried I'd do something wrong and have to resort in a store bought (gasp!) (no, not really, there's nothing wrong with store bought, I just have a lot of time on my hands).

Rainbow cakes are all the rage in the world of pinterest. Seriously, not a day goes by that I don't see a pin of a rainbow cake. I simply couldn't resist.

The cake is simple to make, just time consuming. All you have to do is get two boxes of white cake mix (or make it from scratch if you're crazy like that) and divide, as equally as possible, into six different bowls. After divided into bowls, mix however much food coloring you'd like (I got really crazy with the red).

I only had two cake pans, so it took me a lot longer than it would if I had had six. After all of the cakes had been baked and cooled completely, I individually wrapped them in plastic wrap and placed them in the freezer (I left them in overnight because I ran out of time that day). Take them out of the freezer and let them thaw completely. Ice in between layers and then around and on top. Weee rainbows.

Four layers baked...
Two in the oven...
Being frozen...
Me icing the layers...
Layers Iced...

Add incredibly handmade-looking straw banner and the rest of the icing aaaaaaaaand we're done. It's really hard to wait and cut it (well at least it was for me...).

Even the crumbs and the dishes are pleasing to the eyes. I almost left it there for decoration (not really).

Another yummy rainbow treat was handy rainbow slushie thing.

This was by far the easiest, quickest, most tastily refreshing thing to make. Take a big pack of ice pops, and divide them into individual bowls and crush them up. Be sure to put the layers in the freezer in between layering or they'll melt into each other. Scoop it out with a spoon. NOM NOM

Fruit platters always make a lovely display

We congregated around the food, as expected.

As far as decorations go...pom-poms and bunting were my best friends. I'm reusing them in Indigo's little area in our room.
I was asked how I made the pom-poms, so here's a link to my Pinterest "baby shower" board. All of my ideas stemmed from here: http://pinterest.com/ilovemybunny/baby-shower/ (don't judge me, yes my screen name is ilovemybunny).

Last and least, the "guestbook."
I woke up at four in the morning this morning for no reason whatsoever so I figured I would get on photoshop and make something useful. I meant to give this to her at the end of the shower, but I'll just give it to her later this week. I'll add some other pages with it as well....

Feel free to use these, just click and save them.

34 weeks and some odd days.
40 days to go.
I meant to get a picture with the preggo honoree of the shower (she's a little over a week behind me),
but alas, she was in too much of a hurry to get eat wings (yeah, I told on you, Lindsey).

Hope your day was filled with rainbows!
